Parlor(2)-

The parlor is a room that the guests would usually meet, talk, and sometimes have a few snacks or drinks. In this parlor is

where the men would talk about political things and how the country is going. This is a very formal parlor because the couch is deep blue and there is fine china in this parlor. There is also gold and good furniture. The parlor is the place to display your wealth. There would also be a woman's parlor. It is separate from the men's parlor. In this room the women would play their instruments and eat little things and sometimes have a small drink. They would also chat and gossip and find husbands for their daughters. This parlor is a somewhat formal dinning room. It has colorful carpet and white table cloths.

(2) Kitchens-

The kitchen to the left is an oven kitchen. At this oven you would cook meals for big parties. This would be used for things like stew and other meals. This kitchen would be in this house because it has a lot of area to cook in. Bread was often baked in the kitchen to the right. The kitchen to the right would be used for touching up the foods mostly, and maybe for the smaller, less messy meals. This kitchen is very high tech for its time, and would have been owned by a wealthy plantation owner who could afford an iron stove.




Slave quarters(2)-

This is a place were a house slave would sleep. This room has red in it and if somebody was walking around your property and saw this then they would know right away that the person is quite rich. Another reason that this is a wealthy persons house because a slaves quarters would be baren and unclean and this room is very tidy and neat.

This is a picture of a slave village. All the field slaves would live here away from the main house.They would sleep and eat here after a long day out in the field. The slave village would be far from the main house, to the point where the plantation owners would not see them.






(3) Bedrooms-

Specifically a room meant only for sleep. The bedrooms were to sleep in and were kept privately to the members of the family only.
This would be the parent's bedroom. They would sleep in this room. This would probably be the parent's room because it is a feather bed. In this room there is bright colors and good woodwork. The walls in this room are a lighter blue and there are white table cloths and a white bed spread. The parent's bedroom picture is perfect for my client's house because it has a feather bed, a lot of designs on the fabric including dark blues and reds,as well as a big window right next to the bed allowing light into the room.

The picture to the right would be that of a young girl's bedroom. This particular young girl would probably be in her early teen years according to the hat on the bed. This room is most definitely that of a rich young woman. You can tell this because of the rich dark purple in the fabric on the bed, and the designs on the fabric are really beautiful and intricate.

This bedroom would probably be from a young child to a little bit older of a boy's bedroom. All of the reds and the dark blues in the quilt would have been used in a wealthy person's house, as well as the wallpaper. This bed is a rope bed, and is a good bedroom for a younger child.






(2) Guest Bedrooms-

These are guest bedrooms. If they had somebody over who would stay the night, then this would be where they would sleep. These people are wealthy enough that they can display it in the guest rooms by putting colors in here even though they aren't very rich deep colors. In the second guest bedroom there is a great display of wealth by hiring a person to paint a mural on the walls. In both rooms there is nice furnishing.

Dance Hall

Dance Hall-

This dance hall is where all of the wealthy people would have been invited to dance. By rank in money they would all line up, the hosts were usually the wealthiest and would be in the front, and then dance in their lines. The rug suggests a lot of wealth with all of its dark blues and purples and golds. Also it has elegant wood-worked furniture. This room would display the family's wealth because of the deep rich colors. In this room there would be a lot of socializing during the parties.





Garden

Garden-

The garden was mainly for the ladies and men to go out and have fresh air while surrounded by beautiful scenery. They would take walks and they might have tea on a nice day. The rich plantation owners would have a beautiful garden that was used for nothing other than flowers. The pupose of a garden would be to look good.





Exterior-

A wealthy family would have a symmetrical house of brick. A wealthy family would also have a lot of chimneys and a lot of windows. This particular house has two kitchens that are also placed symmetrically according to the house. There is a big yard and lots of trees. Office-

All of the business of the plantation would be done in this room. The man of the house would do all the work in this room. There would be books covering all the shelves in the book cases.The office belongs to someone wealthy; you can tell by the blue walls, all of the book cases, and the beautiful wood worked furniture. This is where the finances of the family would be calculated. This room is an important room because alot of important work would be done in here.

Formal Dining Room-

This is where guests would eat at parties. A wealthy family would have this be their formal dining room because of its elegant wallpaper and gorgeous fireplace, not to mention the red drapes. This room belongs in a rich person's home, you can tell by the red drapes, the china, the
wallpaper, and the beautiful fireplace. This picture fits a plantation's wealth because there is crystal and china with a very complex pattern on it.

Informal Dining Room-

This is where the family would normally eat their everyday meals. It's not as intricate as the formal dinning room but still has expansive things in it. In this room the walls are a light blue and there is a marble fireplace. There is china on the table and the chairs have a design on them. There is also a pantry in this dining room. That's where they would keep food and plates and things.

The picture to the left is a grape vineyard. With this feild they would grow grapes for things like wine or just to eat grapes. The slaves of the estate would work this feild and harvest the grapes and do all of the other work. The produce that comes from the vinyard would probably have been sold to wineries to be made into wine.









Orchard

This is a picture of a orchard on the estate of the family. In this orchard there would be friut trees such as apples, oranges, and lemons. The slaves on the property would take care of the orchard too. With the produce from this orchard the plantaion owners might sell the produce or just pick enough to have their slaves make pies and other things.
A wealthy plantation would have a grand orchard, usually not because the fruits are their major crop though, mainly they had the orchard because they could or because it made them look good.
